BRS MLCs Thatha Madhu, Naveen Kumar arrested

Police arrested BRS MLCs Thatha Madhu and B. Naveen Kumar Reddy from their residences in Hyderabad on Tuesday morning, a day after alleged high-handedness against BRS legislators at the Assembly.

Hyderabad: The police arrested BRS MLCs Thatha Madhu and B Naveen Kumar Reddy from their respective residences in MLA Quarters and Kokapet on Tuesday morning. 

The arrests were carried out a day after the police high-handedness against the BRS legislators at the Telangana Assembly on Monday.

Tension prevailed at the residences of the MLCs as police arrived in large numbers around 6.30 am even as both the MLCs were reportedly getting ready for the Council session.

The police allegedly attempted to barge into the bedroom of Thatha Madhu who was draped in a towel upon completing his bath. BRS leaders including BRSV State president Gellu Srinivas Yadav who arrived at the MLA quarters to accompany Madhu to the Council, had a heated argument with the police over their indecent behaviour and not even allowing the MLC to wear his clothes.

A similar situation was witnessed at Naveen Kumar Reddy’s residence in Kokapet, with the family members alleging that the police dragged him out even before he could wear his shoes.

The police served intimation of arrest notices to the families following their arrests. Thatha Madhu’s family was informed that the MLCs were being arrested under Section 352 r/w 3 (5) of BNS, Section 3(1)(r), 3(2)(va), 3(2) (vii) of SC/ST Prevention of Atrocities Act for alleged remarks against Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar during the chaos at the Assembly gate on Monday. 

Naveen Kumar’s family was informed that he was arrested under SC/ST Prevention of Atrocities Act and other sections.
