BRS leader Anugula Rakesh Reddy slams low budget allocation for schools in Telangana

BRS leader Anugula Rakesh Reddy accused the Congress government in Telangana of neglecting education, citing low budget allocation, shortage of full-time education officers, and plans to drastically reduce schools.

Hyderabad: BRS leader Anugula Rakesh Reddy on Thursday accused the Congress government of neglecting education and pushing children from poor and middle-class families away from schooling.

Addressing a press conference at Telangana Bhavan, he cited an RBI report to claim that Telangana spent only 5.98 per cent of its State budget on education, against the Congress promise of allocating 15 per cent. He stated that Bihar spent 20 per cent of its State budget. He questioned Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, who also holds the Education portfolio, over the shortfall.

The BRS leader said only four of Telangana’s 33 districts have full-time District Education Officers, while others had only in-charge DEOs (District Education Officers). He criticised Revanth Reddy’s alleged proposal for rationalising schools and reducing their number from 27,000 to just 4,000.

He condemned the Chief Minister’s adverse remarks against teachers and also demanded implementation of the old pension scheme and action on pending DA (Dearness Allowance) and PRC (Pay Revision Commission) issues for teachers. Calling the State Education Commission an unnecessary burden on the State treasury, he wanted the government to furnish details of expenditure.
