Hyderabad: BRS district president and former MP Balka Suman criticised Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) for its alleged negligence in ensuring worker safety, following the death of a coal miner in an underground mine collapse at Mandamarri.

Suman visited the hospital in Ramakrishnapur on Saturday to console the family of Shravan Kumar, who died after a sidewall in the underground mine caved in. He termed the incident “unfortunate” and accused SCCL of prioritising profits over the safety of its workers.

He alleged that the company had been compromising on basic safety protocols and blamed the State government for failing to act over the past 20 months, during which several miners reportedly lost their lives due to similar lapses.

“The government must give top priority to miner safety and take immediate preventive measures to avoid such tragedies,” he said, urging officials to strictly enforce safety norms at all mining sites.
