BRS leader K Kavitha calls for Maha Dharna at Indira Park on June 4 to protest Kaleshwaram Commission notice to KCR
Asks if this is a Kaleshwaram Commission or a Congress Commission; accuses Revanth government of targeting K Chandrashekhar Rao to discredit the transformative project, which she claims provided irrigation to 20 lakh acres every year

Hyderabad: BRS MLC K Kavitha announced a Maha Dharna on June 4 at Dharna Chowk, Indira Park, to protest the notices issued to former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao by the Justice PC Ghose Commission probing alleged irregularities in the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme (KLIS).
The announcement came during a press conference following the inauguration of the new Telangana Jagruthi office in Banjara Hills on Saturday.
Addressing the media, Kavitha condemned the commission’s notices, questioning their intent and labeling the probe as politically motivated. “Is this a Kaleshwaram Commission or a Congress Commission?” she thundered, accusing the Congress-led government under Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy of targeting K Chandrashekhar Rao to discredit the transformative Kaleshwaram project, which she claimed provided irrigation to 20 lakh acres every year and helped in fulfilling the dream of extending the irrigation support to one crore acres in Telangana.
“Why was the notice served to KCR? Was it for implementing Rythu Bandhu or Rythu Bima? Was it for ensuring the welfare of Telangana’s people?” she asked, emphasising that the notice was an attack not just on KCR but on the spirit of Telangana itself.
Kavitha, who founded Telangana Jagruthi in 2006, highlighted the organisation’s 18-year journey in championing Telangana’s cultural and social renaissance during the statehood movement. She recalled the challenges faced at its inception, noting that despite warnings from detractors about potential suppression by Seemandhra rulers, the organisation retained its ‘Telangana’ prefix to serve the people with regional pride.
“People cautioned us to drop ‘Telangana’ from Jagruthi’s name, fearing backlash, but we stuck to our guns,” she said, crediting K Chandrashekhar Rao and Professor Jaishankar for inspiring the movement.
The BRS leader also criticised the current Congress government for neglecting Telangana’s identity. “The Chief Minister doesn’t even utter ‘Jai Telangana’ or pay homage to Telangana martyrs,” she said, questioning Revanth Reddy’s legitimacy to lead the State.
She accused the government of supporting the diversion of 200 TMC of Godavari water to Andhra Pradesh through projects such as Banakacharla and Polavaram. Under the influence of Andhra Pradesh leaders, the Chief Minister remained silent on Telangana’s rightful share.
“Telangana has a legitimate right to 200 TMC of Godavari water. The Chief Minister must call for an Apex Council meeting and raise the issues of injustice meted out to the State. He should make a statement on this on June 2,” she demanded.
