Hyderabad: BRS leader A Rakesh Reddy lambasted the Revanth Reddy government for jeopardising the future of Telangana’s students by failing to release fee reimbursement arrears and scholarships. He demanded the government to clarify whether it intends to clear the dues or scrap the scheme altogether.

Addressing mediapersons at Telangana Bhavan on Tuesday, Rakesh Reddy demanded immediate release of pending dues, stating that several degree colleges were postponing examinations due to pending payment of fee.

“Even Telangana University has issued a circular citing non-payment of fee as a reason for postponement of exams,” he pointed out, adding that the crisis was widespread across universities.

He charged the Congress government with pushing the education system into a crisis. “Revanth Reddy is both the Chief Minister and Education Minister, yet government schools are being shut down, universities are being privatised, and Gurukuls are in disarray,” he added.

Taking a sharp dig at the Chief Minister and the Cabinet Minister, Rakesh Reddy said they should stop flying in helicopters even for short distances and other unnecessary expenditure, and instead, clear the fee dues. He warned that delays in degree exams could impact students appearing for national-level PG entrance tests. “College managements are on the verge of shutting down. Certificates are being withheld. Some colleges have even put up ‘For Sale’ boards,” he said.
