BRS leader Sohail questions minority welfare spending, criticises AIMIM

Senior BRS leader Shaik Abdullah Sohail accused the Congress government and AIMIM of failing on minority welfare. He alleged poor utilisation of allocated funds, delays in scholarships and fee reimbursement, and inadequate political pressure, and sought scheme-wise spending and beneficiary details.

HYDERABAD: Senior BRS leader Shaik Abdullah Sohail on Saturday accused the Congress government and AIMIM of a “double failure” on minority welfare, alleging that the recent Legislature session exposed both poor utilisation of funds and inadequate political pressure on the government.

Sohail said government figures showed that only Rs 1,972.17 crore was spent against Rs 5,100.97 crore allocated for minority welfare schemes over two financial years, amounting to 38.7 per cent utilisation. In 2025-26, only Rs 1,010.63 crore was spent against Rs 2,844.02 crore allocated, he said.

He alleged that delayed scholarships and fee reimbursement had further affected minority students, while pending dues had become a major concern.

Sohail also criticised AIMIM, saying its representation in the Assembly on scholarships, fee reimbursement and Waqf issues was too weak.

He demanded that the government publish a scheme-wise statement showing allocations, releases, expenditure, beneficiaries and pending applications.

“Minorities need neither Congress assurances nor AIMIM speeches. They need pending scholarships cleared, welfare schemes implemented, Waqf properties protected and every rupee allocated for their development actually spent,” he said.
