Hyderabad: The BRS leaders have filed a police complaint demanding criminal action against Congress leader Rohin Reddy and former OSD N Sumanth for allegedly threatening representatives of Deccan Cements at gunpoint. Calling it a serious case of criminal intimidation and abuse of power, the BRS demanded immediate registration of an FIR, recording of witness statements, and an impartial probe, including the analysis of call data records of the accused and related officials.
The complaint was submitted by BRS MLC Naveen Kumar Reddy, former MLA Jaipal Yadav, former BC Commission member K Kishore Goud, and Nagesh Mudiraj, under Sections 351, 193, and 7 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, read with Section 173 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023.
In the complaint, which was lodged at Jubilee Hills Police Station on Friday, they accused the Congress leaders of extortion, intimidation, and corruption, citing revelations made by Minister Konda Surekha‘s daughter, Konda Sushmita Patel. On October 15, Sushmita Patel publicly exposed a widespread extortion nexus involving the Congress leaders. She stated that Rohin Reddy, who is said to be a close aide of Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, and Minister Konda Surekha’s former OSD N Sumanth had threatened Deccan Cements representatives with a firearm, the BRS leaders charged in their complaint. The complaint also mentioned Sushmita Patel’s charge that the gun might have been supplied by the Chief Minister himself.
The complaint cited Sushmita Patel’s claim that police task force personnel raided her mother’s Jubilee Hills residence without a warrant, allegedly to detain Sumanth, calling it an unlawful act. Despite the gravity of the allegations, the BRS leaders said, the police failed to register an FIR or record Sushmita Patel’s statement, violating mandatory provisions of Section 173(1) of the BNSS, 2023, and the Supreme Court directions in Lalita Kumari vs State of Uttar Pradesh.
