BRS leaders begin Maha Padayatra ‘Godavari Gosa’ to highlight condition of Godavari River in Godavarikhani
Chander started the padayatra by performing pujas to Lord Shiva and Samakka-Sarakka goddesses on the bank of Godavari river on the outskirts of Godavarikhani town
BRS district president Korukati Chander participating in padayatra in Godavarikhani on Monday.
Peddapalli: To explain the pathetic condition of the river Godavari and the problems of farmers to the common public and BRS president and former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao, party district president and former MLA Korukanti Chander on Monday launched a ‘Maha Padayatra’ titled ‘Godavari Gosa’.
It is also aimed at highlighting the importance of the Kaleshwaram project besides exposing the negligence attitude of the State government.
Chander along with his coordinator Boddu Ravinder started the padayatra by performing pujas to Lord Shiva and goddesses Samakka-Sarakka on the bank of the Godavari river on the outskirts of Godavarikhani town. Later, he garlanded the Telangana Thalli, Telangana Martyrs memorial and statues of Jyothibha Phule and Dr BR Ambedkar as well.
While former Minister Koppula Eashwar inaugurated the yatra, former MLAs Divakar Rao, Putta Madhu and other BRS leaders were present.
The 180 km district padayatra will reach Erravalli on March 22 passing through Peddapalli, Sultanabad, Karimnagar, Bejjenki, Siddipet, Komuravelli and Pragnapur. On Saturday, they will meet Chandrashekhar Rao.
Speaking on the occasion, Chander said with the idea of utilizing Godavari water flowing into the sea without any purpose, Chandrashekhar Rao had constructed the Kaleshwaram project.
However, the Congress government was forcing the river Godavari to dry up with its indifferent attitude and creating troubles for farmers and the public. The current government was releasing water downstream on the pretext of damage to the Medigadda barrage just to put the blame on Chandrashekhar Rao, he added.
The padayatra would explain all these to the public, he said.
