Hyderabad: Senior BRS leader and former Minister G Jagadish Reddy said due to rampant corruption and negligence of development under the Congress government, Telangana’s finances have plummeted, hindering the fulfillment of electoral promises to citizens. He said the Congress government’s financial mismanagement led to a decline of monthly revenue by around Rs 4,000 crore in just six months.

“Public funds meant for Abhaya Hastham pensions, Kalyana Lakshmi, and Rythu Bharosa are being pocketed by the Congress leaders or being diverted to the contractors, rather than spending them for specified purposes, adversely affecting tax collections,” he said.

Speaking at Telangana Bhavan here on Tuesday, Jagadish Reddy contrasted the current administration with the previous BRS government under K Chandrashekhar Rao, noting that during the BRS regime, Telangana’s budget grew from Rs 60,000 crore to Rs 2.6 lakh crore. He criticised the State government for reneging on welfare commitments, including Rs 4,000 pensions for the elderly and Rs 2,500 for women allowance, alleging that these funds are instead being siphoned off by the Congress leaders.

The former Minister lashed out at the Congress for not intervening, especially regarding cotton and paddy procurement, pointing out that Telangana farmers are receiving lesser price than the Minimum Support Price compared to other States. He demanded immediate intervention to secure fair prices for paddy and cotton.

Jagadish Reddy also condemned the imposition of Section 144 during Diwali festive season, affecting cultural gatherings. He said such restrictions reflect the government’s fear of public dissent. He demanded to know how the government expects people to celebrate Diwali with Section 144 imposed.

“This government is in a poor condition and trembling at the idea of public gatherings during Diwali,” he said, questioning whether people now are required to obtain police permission even to host celebrations at their home. He warned that people are watching the actions of Revanth Reddy government closely and will hold the Congress accountable at appropriate time.
