BRS MLAs slam Congress over disruption in Assembly session

BRS MLAs criticised the Congress government for turning the Telangana Assembly Budget Session into a political battleground, alleging diversionary tactics, personal attacks and lack of discussion on key issues such as IT job decline, revenue fall and illegal mining allegations

Hyderabad: BRS MLA K Sanjay accused the Congress government of reducing the Telangana Assembly’s Budget Session to a political slugfest instead of a meaningful debate. He said the government ran the House for merely nine days, with diversionary and abusive politics.

Addressing a press meet at Telangana Bhavan here on Wednesday, Sanjay said issues plaguing the State, including declining IT jobs and falling revenue collections, were ignored, with the ruling party members indulging in personal attacks on opposition MLAs. He said as the BRS raised people’s issues and questioned the government on corruption, the Assembly proceedings were deliberately derailed.


He criticised the Congress members for defending defectors like Kadiyam Srihari without accountability. He also took exception to remarks made against senior BRS leader T Harish Rao and his family, alleging that even family members were being dragged into political attacks. He said even government whips like Adi Srinivas, who were expected to liaise with the opposition members, indulged in personal criticism of BRS MLAs.

Separately, MLA Padi Kaushik Reddy alleged that the Assembly witnessed threats and abusive language from ruling party members. He questioned why Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy was not inclined to constitute a House Committee on illegal mining involving a company belonging to Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy’s family.

He also raised concerns over the fairness of a proposed CB-CID probe, suspecting that it could be biased as it functions under the government. He demanded the Minister’s dismissal over allegations of illegal mining. He stated that he was being targeted for raising public issues in the House, but vowed to continue raising people’s issues inside and outside the Assembly.
