BRS MLC Kavitha calls alteration of Telangana Thalli statue, an attack on Telangana identity
Speaking to the media at her residence on Friday, Kavitha strongly criticized the gazette notification enforcing the revised design. The directive mandates the installation of statues with the altered design statewide and threatens criminal penalties for non-compliance. “Even the British never imposed such restrictions on Bharat Mata statues during the Indian independence movement. This decision is undemocratic and disrespectful,” she remarked.

Hyderabad: Telangana Jagruthi founder and BRS MLC K Kavitha condemned the Congress government for altering the design of the Telangana Thalli statue and threatening to erase the cultural identity of the State. She criticised the removal of Bathukamma, a symbol of Telangana’s heritage, from the statue, calling it an affront to the sentiments of the people.
She declared that people of Telangana will not bow down to such diktats. Notwithstanding any number of cases filed by the Congress government, she asserted that the statues made with original design of Telangana Thalli will be retained across the State.
Addressing the media at her residence here on Friday, Kavitha denounced the gazette notification enforcing the altered design, which mandates installation of statues with altered design across the State and threatens criminal action for non-compliance. “Even the British never imposed such restrictions on Bharat Matha statues during the Indian independence struggle. This move is undemocratic and disrespectful,” she stated.
The BRS MLC pointed out that Bathukamma was officially recognised as a State festival during the BRS regime, demanded action against Congress leaders including Ministers who insulted it, by questioning its necessity in the hands of Telangana Thalli.
Further, Kavitha accused Congress of politicising Telangana’s heritage, alleging that the redesign replaces Bathukamma with the Congress party’s hand symbol. She questioned the secrecy surrounding the altered design till last minute, if it had people’s approval.
Kavitha stated that the Gandhis including late Indira Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi, Priyanka and Rahul Gandhi also celebrated Bathukamma. “However, they remained silent as their Congress Chief Minister is erasing it from the Telangana Thalli statue, to please them. Revanth Reddy with zero role in our statehood movement, is now destroying the soul of Telangana’s heritage,” she said. She demanded that the Congress clear its stand on the issue and asked whether Rahul Gandhi endorses this attack on Telangana’s identity.
She urged citizens to resist the Congress government’s assault on Telangana’s cultural legacy. “This is not about a statue; it’s about preserving the spirit of Telangana and respecting its people,” she said.
