BRS MLC Kavitha slams Congress for ignoring differently-abled
She also criticised the Congress for neglecting the implementation of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (RPWD) Act, 2016, and for failing to properly enforce reservations for differently-abled individuals.

Hyderabad: BRS MLC K Kavitha lashed out at the Congress government for failing to fulfill its promises to the differently-abled community, made during the Assembly election campaign including Rs 6,000 pension for the differently-abled persons even an year after coming to power. She also criticised the Congress for neglecting the implementation of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (RPWD) Act, 2016, and for failing to properly enforce reservations for differently-abled individuals.
On International Day of Persons with Disabilities, Telangana Divyangula Association representatives, led by BRS leader Chirra Ravinder Yadav, met Kavitha at her residence in Banjara Hills. They submitted a representation urging her to raise issues like double-bedroom houses, subsidised loans, and increased pensions for the differently abled in the Legislative Council.
She reminded that the K Chandrashekhar Rao government had increased the monthly pension for differently abled persons from Rs 500 to Rs 4,000, which is highest in the country. She also pointed out that the BRS government implemented welfare schemes, such as subsidised loans for self-employment and a fourfold increase in the budget for disabled welfare.
Preserve Secularism
Meanwhile, Kavitha called for unity to preserve secularism in Telangana, emphasising the need to resist forces attempting to disrupt social harmony. She urged people to remain vigilant against divisive forces.
Speaking at a meeting with Christian community leaders led by M Rajeev Sagar and Soloman Raj at her residence, she accused the BJP of promoting hatred and disturbing social peace. She reminded about BRS president and former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao’s efforts to protect secularism and blamed the Congress government for allowing communal riots during its rule, which disrupted people’s lives. She reaffirmed the BRS party’s commitment to providing opportunities and justice to all communities, including Christians.
Increase Reservations for BCs
Gangaputra community leaders, led by BRS MLA Mutha Gopal, met Kavitha on Tuesday to thank her for supporting the BC caste census report. Kavitha, who is also the president of Telangana Jagruti, emphasised the need for increased reservations in local body elections and quotas for BC women. She reiterated her support for BC movements across the country and noted Telangana Jagruti’s consistent fight for social justice. She assured the leaders of her commitment to pushing for their demands without compromise.
