Hyderabad: The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) NRI-UK chapter celebrated Deeksha Diwas in London, marking a milestone in Telangana’s statehood movement. The event, led by BRS NRI-UK president Naveen Reddy, brought together BRS cadre and supporters from across the UK.

Speaking on the occasion, Naveen Reddy explained the significance of November 29, 2009, when BRS president and former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao‘s hunger strike, which became a turning point in the Telangana struggle. He said Chandrashekhar Rao united people of Telangana and secured statehood through peaceful movement.

BRS NRI-UK unit founder president Anil Kurmachalam compared Chandrashekhar Rao’s approach to Mahatma Gandhi’s non-violent methods.

“Chandrashekhar Rao’s peaceful struggle is a testament to his vision and resilience, offering a global message of progress through non-violence,” he said. He thanked the Telangana NRIs who extended their support throughout the statehood movement and continued to play vital role in Telangana’s programmes after the State formation.

BRS NRI leaders Hari Goud Navapet and several others pledged to continue supporting Chandrashekhar Rao’s mission for Telangana’s development.
