Khammam: BRS cadres in large numbers laid siege to the Khammam Municipal Corporation (KMC) office here on Thursday, protesting against civic issues and alleged corruption in the corporation.

Former SUDA chairman Bachu Vijay Kumar, former Market Committee chairman RJC Krishna, former District Library chairman MA Qamar, and leaders Pagadala Nagaraju and Karnati Krishna, along with former corporators and party activists, took part in the protest.

Speaking to the media, the BRS leaders lashed out at the Congress government, stating that the KMC administration had completely gone off track since the party came to power. Due to the government’s negligent attitude, development works had stalled and public grievances were being ignored, they said.

Vijay Kumar and Krishna complained that the city’s sanitation system was in disarray as garbage was not being cleared on time, while pothole-ridden roads, poor maintenance of parks and non-functional streetlights in many areas were causing hardship to residents.

The BRS leaders demanded an independent and comprehensive inquiry into alleged irregularities in the allocation of ‘Indiramma’ houses, malpractices in sanctioning water connections and difficulties faced by the public regarding house tax.

They also sought strict action against those found responsible for alleged irregularities in diesel consumption for operating municipal vehicles and in the allotment of shops. The leaders warned that if public grievances were not addressed immediately, the BRS would launch intensified protests involving the public.
