Hyderabad: The BRS stepped up its State-wide protests against the Congress government’s 1,000-day rule on Sunday, taking its attack to the streets with auto-rickshaw rallies, farmers’ protests, village-level demonstrations and programmes on the latter’s failures in implementing election promises and resolving civic issues. The party cadre took out rallies, staged dharnas and distributed “Dues Cards” (Baaki Cards).

In Secunderabad Cantonment, BRS leaders organised a large auto rally, questioning the Congress government’s unfulfilled election promises to auto drivers. The protesters demanded the implementation of election promises including annual financial assistance of Rs 12,000, insurance cover and immediate financial assistance and other benefits for families of auto drivers who died by suicide because of financial and livelihood problems.

A massive auto rally was organised in Nalgonda from the NG College grounds to the Clock Tower by former MLA Kancherla Bhupal Reddy. In Patancheru, MLA Gudem Mahipal Reddy led a rally in which large numbers of auto-rickshaws travelled from BHEL crossroads through Ashok Nagar, Beeramguda, Ramachandrapuram, Patancheru and Muthangi to Isnapur.

Similarly, former Minister Satyavathi Rathod, who supported an auto drivers’ protest in Mahabubabad district, alleged that the Congress had promised the assistance during the election but had not implemented it even after 1,000 days.

In Makthal, farmers from several villages staged a dharna on the national highway near the mini tank bund, alleging low voltage and inadequate power supply for agriculture. They said the power problems had put standing paddy crops at risk. Former MLA Chittem Rammohan Reddy supported the protest and sought uninterrupted power supply for agricultural operations. The road blockade resulted in traffic disruption on both sides.

The BRS also organised protests over rural infrastructure and sanitation. In Jogulamba Gadwal district, party workers participated in sanitation activities in Rayapuram and Gattu villages before holding a rally and dharna outside Gattu gram panchayat office. They pointed to deteriorating sanitation and basic infrastructure in rural areas under the Congress rule.

Similar village-level protests were reported in Nuthankal mandal, where BRS workers organised rallies in gram panchayats demanding implementation of the promises made before the elections. In Arvapally, party workers held a protest outside the gram panchayat office demanding implementation of the government’s 420 assurances.

In Neraducherla mandal, the BRS staged a dharna outside the Darshincherla sub-station demanding 24-hour free power for farmers. A separate protest was held in Tripuraram over the government’s 1,000-day rule.

Former Minister and MLA V Sunitha Lakshma Reddy who distributed the Congress ‘Dues Cards’ in Narsapur constituency, said the exercise was aimed at drawing public attention to the government dues and unfulfilled assurances.
