BRS seeks probe into ‘Sandhya Rao BRS’ social media account

A social media account named ‘Sandhya Rao BRS’, cited by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy in the Assembly, has triggered a political row. BRS leaders approached cybercrime police seeking verification of the account’s authenticity, origin, operator and alleged links with the party.

Hyderabad: A social media account named ‘Sandhya Rao BRS’, which was referred to by Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy in the Telangana Assembly on Wednesday, has triggered a political controversy, with BRS leaders approaching the cybercrime police seeking an investigation into its authenticity.

The BRS leaders in their complaint demanded the police establish whether the account is genuine or fake and identify the person or persons operating it. They also sought an inquiry into the origin of the account and its alleged links with the BRS.

The controversy erupted after the Chief Minister, while speaking in the Assembly, read out a post attributed to a social media account in the name of Sandhya Rao BRS. The post was related to an allegation concerning the farmhouse of BRS president and former Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao at Erravelli in Siddipet.

BRS leaders questioned the identity of Sandhya Rao and said there was no known party functionary holding the designation attributed to the account. They alleged that the account was deleted soon after the Chief Minister referred to it in the Assembly.

BRS leader Praveen criticised the government, alleging that it was relying on fake news and social media accounts. He questioned how a post from an account whose authenticity had not been established could be cited by the Chief Minister on the floor of the Assembly.

The BRS leaders said the cybercrime police should conduct a technical investigation to determine when the account was created, who operated it, from where it was being accessed, and whether it had any connection with the BRS.
