Khammam: A Maha Dharna was staged by the BRS party at the collectorate here on Friday demanding the State government to take immediate measures to resolve the issues faced by maize and paddy farmers in Khammam district.

The district BRS president, MLC Tata Madhusudhan, former Minister Puvvada Ajay Kumar, MP Vaddiraju Ravichandra, former MLAs Sandra Venkata Veeraiah and Kandala Upender Reddy, and former ZP chairman Lingala Kamal Raju took part in the protest.

The leaders accused the government of acting negligently regarding the procurement of maize and paddy crops in Telangana. Even as farmers were facing severe hardships due to the lack of remunerative prices for their produce, the three ministers in Khammam failed to address the issues.

The previous BRS regime had supported farmers through schemes such as Rythu Bandhu, crop bonus and loan waiver, but the Congress government is neglecting the welfare of farmers. Due to the government’s failure to fully establish procurement centres and provide support prices, farmers are being exploited by middlemen, they complained.

The government should immediately open procurement centres to purchase maize and paddy cultivated by farmers at the minimum support price. Otherwise, the BRS would intensify its agitation alongside the farmers, the leaders warned.

A memorandum was submitted to additional Collector P Srinivasa Reddy. The BRS leaders K Nagabhushanam, Pagadala Nagaraju, Bommera Rammurthy, Bellam Venugopal, activists and farmers participated in the protest.
