Siddipet: Farmers led by BRS leaders staged a maha dharna at Kondapochamma Sagar demanding that the government lift Godavari water from the Kannepalli pump house without any delay.

Since Siddipet and other districts were reeling under serious drought conditions, the BRS leaders organised a rally to Kondapochamma Sagar on Friday, to register their protest over the inordinate delay in pumping water.

Speaking on the occasion, BRS Gajwel constituency In-charge Vanteru Prathap Reddy asked the government to impound Annapurna Sagar, Ranganayaka Sagar, Kondapochamma Sagar, and Mallanna Sagar by lifting water from the river Godavari.

Since the farmers did not take up any sowing operations so far, Prathap Reddy demanded the government irrigation department to release water to Haldi Vagu, Kudavelly Vagu, Sangareddy Canal, Ramayampet Canal, Kamareddy canal and Basavapur canal, to meet the irrigation needs of lakhs of acres besides impounding the minor irrigation tanks.

Even though lakhs of cusecs of water was going waste into the sea every day, the BRS leaders said that the Congress government remained unresponsive to the demand of the farmers while reservoirs remained empty.

Stating that the BRS government led by K Chandrashekhar Rao built multiple reservoirs to bring a change in the lives of farmers, Reddy said that the Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy had made the farmers suffer by stopping the pumping of water.

The BRS leader warned that they would not let the Congress leaders and ministers roam the villages unless the irrigation department starts pumping of water. They also demanded the immediate completion of irrigation projects and canals to provide water to every nook and corner.
