Hyderabad: BRS Parliamentary Party leader and Rajya Sabha MP Vaddiraju Ravichandra raised a host of Telangana-specific issues at the all-party meeting convened ahead of the monsoon session of Parliament on Sunday. He urged the Centre to address the State’s drought situation, irrigation, coal production and infrastructure needs.

The meeting, chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, discussed the agenda for the session beginning on Monday.

During the meeting, Ravichandra pointed to the drought conditions in Telangana, attributing them to the El Nino effect. He said depleted reservoirs, falling groundwater levels, drinking water scarcity and power shortages had severely affected the State. He urged the Centre to increase coal production by allocating additional coal blocks to Singareni to strengthen thermal power generation and create employment.

He also sought national project status for either the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme or the Palamuru-Rangareddy project. He demanded the revival of the Cement Corporation of India (CCI) plant at Adilabad, establishment of the Railway Coach Factory at Kazipet and a steel plant at Bayyaram.

The BRS MP wanted the Centre to expedite development of airports at Adilabad, Mamnoor and Kothagudem. He also pressed for an IIM in Telangana, approval for Phase-II of the Hyderabad Metro Rail, restoration of five villages adjoining Bhadrachalam to Telangana, implementation of reservations for OBCs and women in legislatures, and creation of a separate union Ministry for OBCs.
