Workers of the Cement Corporation of India unit in Adilabad are worried after the Union government invited tenders to sell machinery as scrap. They fear the move signals closure, ending hopes of revival and impacting livelihoods dependent on the factory.
Industries Minister D Sridhar Babu urged the union government to revive the defunct CCI plant in Adilabad, saying it could generate 3,000 jobs. The CCI estimated Rs 2,000 crore for modernisation. He opposed privatisation, stressing Adilabad’s backward status.
The Central government recently issued tenders to auction scrap and industrial equipment from the unit, setting an initial price of Rs 43.30 crore. This move has sparked strong opposition from the local community and employees of the cement manufacturer. BRS working president K Taraka Rama Rao has also voiced his disapproval of the decision through a post on his X handle.
The disgruntled employees tried to stop the convoy of Shah in protest against the Centre's failure to keep its word with regard to revival of the sick cement company.
