Hyderabad: The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) on Wednesday hailed the Supreme Court’s directive to restore the forest in Kancha Gachibowli and to ensure the protection of wildlife in the area as a huge win for environmental conservation efforts in Telangana.
Reacting to the apex court’s strong observations against the Telangana government, BRS working president KT Rama Rao said the order vindicates the concerns raised by environmentalists and the BRS over the large-scale tree felling in Kancha Gachibowli forest. He hoped that the Revanth Reddy government will not continue to make a fool of itself.
“The BRS wholeheartedly welcomes the Supreme Court’s directions. We hope this serves as a wake-up call for Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and the Congress government that they cannot get away with environmental murder,” he said in a statement.
Thanking students and faculty of the University of Hyderabad (UoH) who stood up for the voiceless trees and wildlife, the former Minister credited them for their relentless efforts to protect the 400-acre forest. He also thanked all citizens who raised their voice for Hyderabad’s green cover.
Rama Rao also welcomed the Supreme Court-appointed Central Empowered Committee’s (CEC) report, which noted possible financial fraud in mortgaging the Kancha Gachibowli land to a private party. He said this validates the BRS party’s charge that Chief Minister Revanth Reddy is at the centre of a Rs 10,000 crore scam and charged him with becoming the “villain No. 1” against State’s forests and wildlife.
