Adilabad: Police on Sunday booked a murder case and one under the SC, ST prevention of Atrocities Act against unidentified persons following the suspicious death of a BSc Operation Theatre Technology (OTT) first year student from Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS)-Adilabad at a government hostel in Mavala mandal centre on Friday night.

Mavala police said Rathod Jithender (20) from Chorgaon village in Narnoor mandal was found dead under suspicious circumstances at an under-construction building near the hostel. Jithender was staying in a government hostel in the town. Based on a complaint received from Jithender’s brother, a case was registered. Investigations were taken up.

On Saturday, family members of the student and student unions staged a rasta-roko along with Jithender’s body, demanding action against the perpetrators. They withdrew the protest when Collector Rajarshi Shah assured them of justice by speaking to them over the phone.

Postmortem of the body was performed at RIMS. Cause of the death was yet to be ascertained. The family members suspected that some persons from Chorgaon might have murdered Jithender, following a brawl between them. They alleged that Jithender was bludgeoned to death after forcing him to consume liquor on the terrace of the building on Friday around 10 pm.
