Hyderabad: An engineering student died after she allegedly suffered grievous injuries while driving a Quadra cycle (open wheel car) at a Go-Karting play zone at Gurramguda in Meerpet.
Police said Sri Varshini (23), who was pursuing BTech final year in a private engineering college, had gone to the play zone along with her family and friends on Wednesday evening.
She got into the open wheel car and the staff present there fastened the seat belts and put a helmet too. However, while she was driving the vehicle, the helmet strap came off and her hair got tangled to the headrest of the seat and the rear tyre.
“When she accelerated, her head hit hard to the seat. She suffered a grievous head injury and was immediately shifted to a nearby private hospital. She was in a critical condition and was put on a ventilator,” said P Anantha Ramulu, Assistant Sub-inspector, Meerpet. However, despite the efforts of doctors, Varshini died on Thursday late evening.
Alleging negligence on behalf of the play zone management and the staff, Varshini’s family lodged a complaint with the Meerpet police who booked a case of negligence causing death.
“We initially booked a case against the management and the staff present at the track for their negligence causing injuries. Subsequently, it has been altered to negligence leading to death. Based on further investigation, necessary action will be taken against those responsible,” the official said.
The body was shifted to the Osmania General Hospital morgue for autopsy.
