Burglars break into SBI in Karimnagar, decamp with gold, cash
The burglars used a gas cutter to open the bank locker, and took away the Digital Video Recorder (DVR) to prevent police from going through the CCTV footage, police said
Peddapalli: Thieves broke into the State Bank of India branch in Gunjapadugu on Wednesday night and stole 6 kgs of gold and Rs 18 lakh cash.
The burglars used a gas cutter to open the bank locker, and took away the Digital Video Recorder (DVR) to prevent police from going through the CCTV footage, police said. The bank staff came to know about the burglary only when they came to the branch on Thursday morning. The branch does not have a watchman either.
According to police, the burglars, who must have conducted a recce of the premises, entered the bank by breaking open the rear side window after midnight. They first disconnected the locker alarm connection after which they opened the locker using the gas cutter.
The bank staff were shocked on finding the locker open when they came to the branch in the morning. They immediately alerted the bank manager Prahaladh, who lodged a police complaint.
Ramagundam Police Commissioner V Satyanarayana visited the bank and enquired about the incident. Peddapalli DCP P Ravinder, Godavarikhani ACP Umender and other police officers also visited the bank.
After examining the way the burglary taken place, police suspected that the thieves must be professionals. Based on the complaint lodged by the bank manager, police registered a case and launched a hunt for the burglars.
