Hyderabad: A city-based businessman was duped of Rs 15 lakh by conmen, who on the pretext of providing an online data entry job cheated him.
According to the police, the man who was in search of an online job, searched on Google and found an advertisement for a company providing online data entry work. He then approached the firm management, who asked him to pay Rs 40,000 towards security deposit for an online account. Initially, the company paid him some money but later lured him into paying Rs 8 lakh for getting access to 20 more accounts. An amount of Rs 36,000 a month per account was assured for the work to the victim.
“Believing the firm, the victim deposited Rs 8 lakh and hired 20 people for the online job. He paid salaries to the employees for three months on assurance provided by the company. However, after three months, the company rejected the work saying it was not done properly,” said S Srinivas Rao, Inspector (Cybercrimes).
After failing to get back the amount the victim approached the police and lodged a complaint, based on which the police booked a case and are investigating.
