Businessman murders wife, daughter in Hyderabad

According to the police, the man, D Vijay, who lived with his wife Sneha (40) and three children in Bowenpally, had run into losses in his business on account of the lockdown last year

Hyderabad: The Bowenpally police arrested a businessman on charges of smothering his wife and daughter to death at their house a few days ago. The alleged murder was reportedly portrayed as a case of suicide.

According to the police, the man, D Vijay, who lived with his wife Sneha (40) and three children in Bowenpally, had run into losses in his business on account of the lockdown last year. He was thinking of killing his family and end his own life as well, the police said.

“In the early hours of July 1, Vijay smothered his wife Sneha and 14-year-old daughter Hansika to death using a pillow. Later, he went into another room and consumed a poisonous substance,” said K Ravi Kumar, SHO (Bowenpally). The younger children, however, raised an alarm, and neighbours who found Vijay lying unconscious alerted the police.

Vijay was admitted to hospital while the bodies of Sneha and Hansika were shifted to the mortuary. A case under Section 174 (suspicious death) was registered. Vijay told the police that all three of them had consumed a poisonous substance. However, the autopsy report revealed that Sneha and Hansika were smothered to death, after which Vijay was questioned.

“Vijay admitted that he had killed his wife and the elder daughter. He could not muster the courage to kill the other two children who were asleep in the adjoining room,” the SHO said.
