Hyderabad: ‘Only goodness, no fowl play’ is what they promise. Country Chicken Co., which claims to be the first brand to exclusively sell high-quality organic country chicken and also the only online seller of ‘natu kodi’, has set up shop in the city.
The store, located in Pragathi Nagar in Kukatpally, sells some real exotic chicken from the store and also online, with the birds on offer being varieties like Tender Telangana, Classic Andhra, Mysore Queen, Warrior (Pandhem kodi) and yes, the blackest of black Kadaknath too.
The chicken, the company says, promise quality meat because they are fed tomatoes, aloe vera, sunflower powder etc. According to Country Chicken Co CEO G Saikesh Goud, the company started operations in October 2021 through online delivery.
“Due to overwhelming response through online orders, we decided to take things a step further and open India’s first country chicken retail outlet,” he said.
Company founder Hemamber Reddy, who said four more stores would soon open across Hyderabad, assured that the chickens were never fed artificial hormones to bolster growth or steroids or antibiotics to gain muscle.
According to the firm’s website, the Mysore Queen was fed organic food grains supplemented with herbs, while the Warrior, the costliest of the lot at Rs.2599 (online price) was fed almonds, cashews and pulses before sunrise. A dose of dry fruits and cereals too were given to make it one of the healthiest country chicken birds.
The online prices, according to the firm’s website, were Kadaknath (Rs 909), Classic Andhra (Rs 584), Tender Telangana (Rs 487) and Mysore Queen (Rs 552).
The store at Pragati Nagar was inaugurated by Minister for Animal Husbandry and Fisheries Talasani Srinivas Yadav and KP Vivekananda Goud, MLA.
The firm’s website, www.countrychickenco.in, from where one can order the exotic birds online, has some interesting recipes for each of the birds too, ranging from ‘Dum Ka Desi Murgh’ with Tender Telangana country chicken, ‘Ginger Country Chicken’ with Andhra country chicken and even a ‘Kallu Country Chicken curry” made with the Tender Telangana chicken.
