Car catches fire on Hyderabad-Bengaluru highway near Shamshabad

A car was completely gutted after catching fire while travelling on the Hyderabad-Bengaluru National Highway near Shamshabad on Sunday. The driver escaped after noticing smoke and flames, while firefighters later doused the blaze. Traffic movement was temporarily affected

Hyderabad: A car was completely gutted after it caught fire while travelling on the Hyderabad-Bengaluru National Highway near Shamshabad on Sunday.

According to the police, the driver noticed smoke and flames coming from the vehicle while travelling on the highway. He pulled the car over to the roadside and stepped out.

Within a few minutes, the car was engulfed in flames and completely burnt, while onlookers watched. The incident caused panic among other motorists, and traffic movement on the highway was affected.

On receiving the information, Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) police and fire personnel rushed to the spot. Firefighters used fire engines to douse the flames, but the car had been completely damaged by then.

Police suspect that the fire might have been caused by a short circuit or engine overheating.
