Nalgonda: A car carrying eight persons overturned after hitting a road divider and burst into flames, leaving the vehicle completely gutted at Gundrampally on the Hyderabad to Vijayawada National Highway on Saturday.

All eight occupants escaped unhurt, though the accident caused a major traffic jam on the highway. Eyewitnesses said the Innova, travelling from Hyderabad towards Vijayawada, suddenly went out of control on a stretch of NH-65. The driver, unable to apply the brakes, hit the central divider, causing the vehicle to flip several times before coming to a halt on the roadside.

Motorists rushed to the rescue of the family travelling in the car and helped everyone to safety. Chityala police registered a case and began an investigation.
