Hyderabad: The Punjagutta police have registered a case against YouTuber Anvesh following allegations that he made offensive remarks against Hindu deities.

The complaint was lodged by film actress and BJP leader Karate Kalyani on Tuesday. Based on the complaint, police booked Anvesh under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with Section 67 of the Information Technology Act.

Officials said notices will be issued to Anvesh shortly as part of the investigation to record his statement in the matter.

The controversy arose after Anvesh recently released a video criticising comments made by Telugu actor Shivaji on actresses’ attire. However, certain remarks in the video, which were perceived as insulting to revered Hindu figures, including Sita and Draupadi, triggered strong backlash.

Hindu organisations expressed outrage, staged protests across the Telugu states and burned effigies of the YouTuber. Several complaints have since been filed against Anvesh in Telangana, while some Hindu groups have demanded strict action, including declaring him anti-national and taking steps to bring him back to India.
