Mahabubabad: Farmers continue to face hardships under the Congress rule. After waiting under the scorching sun for urea tokens in Kamareddy, Mahabubabad police have now registered cases against 36 farmers for staging a protest demanding land passbooks.
Farmers from Narayanapuram village in Kesamudram mandal have long appealed to the State government to issue passbooks for their lands. Despite submitting representations to the District Collector earlier, their grievances remained unresolved.
On Monday, they staged a protest on the Maripeda–Mahabubabad highway opposite the District Collectorate. Police booked cases against them for blocking traffic on the highway.
Condemning the police action and the Collector’s failure to address their grievances, the farmers lodged a complaint with the Chief Minister’s Office on Wednesday. They also sought the immediate transfer of the Collector.
In their representation to the CMO, the farmers said that in June 2021, a government survey covered 1,827 acres in their village. Of this, passbooks were issued for 633 acres, while nearly 1,100 acres remain pending.
The farmers pointed out that without pass books, they have been denied several benefits, including Rythu Bandhu, Rythu Bima, crop loans, and loan waiver schemes. Now, even urea bags are being supplied only against passbook numbers.
“In the current season, urea bags are being offered based on passbook numbers. Since Narayanapuram farmers do not have pass books, they are deprived of urea bags,” they stated in the representation.
