New Delhi: The CBI conducted a weeklong training course on the investigation of economic offences for 30 officers from 13 countries under the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation programme of the Ministry of External Affairs. The course, which concluded on Wednesday at the CBI Academy, focused extensively on the investigation of economic offences, the agency said in a statement.

During the training, the participants were given inputs to strengthen awareness, knowledge and practical skills in handling economic offence cases, including the challenges involved, standard operating procedures and best practices for investigation and prosecution, the CBI spokesperson said. Officials from Bhutan, Fiji, Kingdom of Eswatini (Formerly Swaziland), Lebanon, Lesotho, Liberia, Maldives, Mauritius, Mexico, Oman, Tanzania, Thailand and Zambia participated in the course.

The participants were given training on different forms of economic offences, challenges associated with investigating and prosecuting such cases and the broader impact of economic offences, which can extend beyond national and geographical boundaries, it said.

Additional Director N. Venu Gopal addressed the participants during the Valedictory ceremony at CBI headquarters on Wednesday, where he highlighted the significance of investigations into economic offences, their varied forms and their impact beyond geographical boundaries, the agency said. The training is part of the CBI’s engagement with officers from ITEC member countries through capacity-building programs focused on specialised areas of law enforcement and investigation, it said.
