Adilabad: Union Minister of State for Home Affairs G Kishan Reddy said the Cotton Corporation of Indian (CCI) should buy cotton from farmers. He was speaking at a review meeting with district authorities on the implementation of schemes sponsored by the Union government here on Tuesday. He was accompanied by Adilabad MP Soyam Bapu Rao.

Stating that the CCI had already procured 14.63 lakh quintals of cotton from 75,531 farmers at a cost of Rs 705 crore, Kishan Reddy instructed the officials to buy the crop without causing inconvenience to farmers by paying minimum support price (MSP). He added that the Centre was taking steps to ensure smooth procurement of the produce.

The Minister instructed authorities of the Revenue department to take steps for acquiring lands to form national highways. He told them to create a central lighting system and asked the authorities of the National Highway Authority of India to expedite works relating to fly overs. He directed officials of railways to set up a wi-fi facility at the railway station of Adilabad town and enquired about the proposed new railway lines.

Authorities of the Agriculture department apprised the Minister of dip in the yield of the cotton recorded in the district due to excess rainfall and pink bollworm that affected the crop. The Minister was also explained about the steps taken for procuring the cotton. Additional Collector G Sandhya Rani brought the issue of moisture percentage in the cotton to the notice of Kishan Reddy.

Speaking to pressmen, Kishan Reddy said that he toured the district to create awareness over new farm laws, promulgated by the Union government, among the public. The Centre will work with the State government in tandem to create infrastructure, education and health facilities. He promised to speak to the concerned Union Minister and Prime Minister over the proposed airstrip for Adilabad.

The Union Minister of State also inspected works on an under construction super specialty hospital here. Additional Collectors M David and G Sandhya Rani, ITDA-Utnoor Project Officer Bhavesh Misra were present.
