Hyderabad: The Central government has started the phase III of Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY-III) and allocated food grains to all the States and Union Territories (UTs) for the free distribution to all the Antyodaya Anna Yojana and priority households beneficiaries from Central pool at Rs 5 a kg per person for May and June 2021.
This is in addition to their respective normal Targeted Public Distribution System (TPDS) allocation as per National Food Security Act (NFSA)-2013 to all States/UTs.
FCI Telangana Region General Manager Ashwani Kumar Gupta said the Central government in its multi-pronged strategy to provide food security to the needy, has undertaken various measures.
He explained that the government under Open Market Sales Scheme (OMSS) has also allowed the sale of rice at Rs 2,200 per quintal and wheat at Rs 2,100 per quintal to those charitable/non-government organisations engaged in relief operations or running relief camps for migrant laborers/vulnerable groups due to present Covid situation.
Gupta said the Central government has extended the scheme for allocating food grains for all the beneficiaries, who are not covered under NFSA and to whom ration cards have been issued by the State governments under their own scheme at five kg per person per month. The Centre has advised the State governments/UTs to actively promote the use of portability through One Nation One Ration Card (ONORC) for NFSA beneficiaries and also advised that States/UTs may also use the different schemes to get additional quantities of food grains, as per the need from the FCI, for distribution to selected target groups including other migrants/stranded labour as per locally assessed requirements.
