Hyderabad: Agriculture Minister S Niranjan Reddy emphasised the need for develop crop clusters across the country and create ample marketing facilities, to turn agriculture into a remunerative occupation for farmers. He urged the union government to take the responsibility and promote crop clusters in a planned manner.
A delegation led by the Minister is visiting various places in Maharashtra as part of a study tour of agricultural and horticultural crops, irrigation facilities, agro industries, food processing units and marketing facilities. They visited the orchards of grape and guava near Shirdi in Ahmednagar district on Friday and interacted with the local farmers as well as the officials.
Speaking on the occasion, Niranjan Reddy slammed the Centre for not supporting the farmers in terms of crop marketing and exports, but instead, causing losses to farmers by not coming up with an action plan in this regard. He explained that the Telangana government was strongly promoting crop diversification as well as providing all support required to farmers through Rythu Bandhu, Rythu Bima, uninterrupted power supply and irrigation water supply among others.

This is ensuring improved income for farmers,” he said. Separate teams from Telangana have already toured Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu to study the crop diversification methods adopted in these respective States.
