Khammam: The Central government was adopting double standards in purchasing paddy from Telangana State, TRS Lok Sabha leader Nama Nageswara Rao said on Monday.
“The BJP government at the Centre is not responding to the State’s appeals to buy paddy produced by farmers. It is sad that the Centre which has been purchasing paddy from Punjab, has declined to buy the produce from Telangana,” he said.
Nageswara Rao was speaking after laying the foundation stone on Monday for the construction of a NABARD-funded co-operative society warehouse in Nagulavancha village of Chintakani mandal in the district. Stating that there were not enough godowns to stock the grains produced in the country, he said the Central government, despite this fact, failed to increase the number of warehouses in the country.
“That is the reason why the Centre is refusing to purchase paddy causing problems for the farmers. It is as important to store grain as it is to cultivate and produce it,” the MP explained. Nageswara Rao noted that the number of warehouses has increased in Telangana after the creation of the separate State because of the committed efforts made by Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao.
If the country was led by a leader like him agriculture would develop in India. In the past Punjab was topped in food grains production but now Telangana has emerged as the leader in the country. Many leaders in New Delhi were surprised at the progress the State made in the field of agriculture, the MP said, adding that he told them that it became possible because of the Chief Minister’s efforts. He said agriculture would develop if there were enough warehouses and food processing units while reminding that in developed countries like America there were warehouses and processing units in every village.
Agriculture production in Telangana increased with State government’s initiatives like free power supply, Rythu Bandhu and others, Nageswara Rao said, expressing hope that large-scale development would take place in Telangana in the coming days. ZP Chairman L Kamal Raju, MLA Bhatti Vikramarka, Seeds Corporation Chairman K Koteswara Rao, DCCB Chairman K Nagbhushanam, Rythu Bandhu convener N Venkateswara Rao and others were present.
