Chandralekha and Dhanush lead International 420 Class in Monsoon Regatta
Chandralekha Tattari and Dhanush Jakkula continued their impressive run by leading the International 420 Class on the second day of the Hyderabad Monsoon Regatta. Strong winds and challenging conditions caused multiple capsizes, while several sailors delivered standout performances

Hyderabad: Skipper Chandralekha Tattari of Udbhav School, Rasoolpura, along with Dhanush Jakkula of MJPTBCWREIS Shamirpet (Boys) School from Wanaparthy, dominated the International 420 Class with two classy wins and are currently topping the charts. They are followed by debutants Badrinath Nirudu of Rasoolpura and Rishwita Sunchankota of MJPTBCWREIS Kamareddy (Girls) School in the Hyderabad Monsoon Regatta at Hussain Sagar Lake here on Wednesday.
The wind gods swung back into action in contrast to the lull conditions of the previous day. The lake saw gusts of 18 knots and many capsizes as sailors were unprepared for the change in weather.
Top seed Deekshita Komaravalley had to retire injured after capsizing and hurting her shoulder and is out of contention in the Monsoon Regatta.
In the Skiff Class 29er boat, Vinod Dandu of Rasoolpura and crew member Arvind Maloth of MJPTBCWREIS Indur (Boys) School from Nizamabad won two of the three races and are ahead of top seeds Sharanya Jhadav and Shivam of Navy Youth Sailing Company, who recently won the Asian Games trials in Bombay.
The Laser Under-18 class saw the boys’ fleet dominated by compatriots Preet Siwal and Hriday Joshi of the Navy, while Katyayani Kaushik, also of the Navy, dominated the girls’ fleet.
Shringari Roy of Secunderabad Club won the second race of the Under-15 Optimist Class.
