Hyderabad: In a strong message to divisive elements trying to set the wrong narrative for the forthcoming GHMC elections, Rachakonda Police Commissioner Mahesh M Bhagwat said it was inter-community partnership that had built Hyderabad over the years.
Recalling the days when he served as the South Zone DCP, Bhagwat said the four minarets of the historic Charminar were more than architectural wonders. “Charminar Ke Chaar Sipahi – Hindu, Muslim, Sikh, Isahi,” he said, adding that during his days as DCP in 2004, he had personally seen the inter-community partnership that built Hyderabad. There were law and order issues then, unlike now when the city was peaceful.
Certain people with vested interests, he said, were taking advantage of even a local election as the GHMC polls, and trying to create disturbance and enmity among groups. “Due to a few people with such malicious intentions trying to create law and order issues in the society, we will not allow the whole population to suffer. Some people are giving extremely derogatory statements. All speeches including inflammatory speeches of such candidates, leaders and supporters are being recorded by our teams. We will take stringent action against those creating communal tensions,” Bhagwat warned.
The Cybercrime cell was keeping a close eye on social media posts and until now, 440 inflammatory posts and fake news were identified on various platforms like Twitter, Facebook and WhatsApp. The police had already written to the managements of these social media platforms seeking action against all those users.
“Two cases have been booked regarding such social media posts, one each in LB Nagar and Rachakonda Cybercrime Cell. In some cases, the legal opinion is awaited. We request political parties to campaign without giving fake information to people,” Bhagwat said.
