Wanaparthy: Raising objection over the Congress party’s decision, especially the interference of local MLA T Megha Reddy in the Chairperson election, Congress candidate from the 3rd ward, Cheerla Rajini, has announced her decision to resign from the party.
Wanaparthy town Congress president Cheerla Vijay Chander’s wife, Cheerla Rajini, had contested from the third ward and got elected with the highest majority of over 500 votes.
Much before the municipal elections, the Congress party had assured Vijay Chander that he would be offered the Chairperson post, which is reserved for women. Accordingly, his wife contested the elections and emerged victorious.
However, at the last minute, the local Congress leaders, under the influence of MLA Megha Reddy, supported the candidature of Madhavi Ramesh, who won from the 33rd ward.
Cheerla Rajini is a BC candidate and Madhavi Ramesh is an OC candidate. Charging that the local leadership had deceived them, Vijay Chander and his wife, Rajini, announced their decision to quit the Congress.
“Madhavi Ramesh does not have any knowledge about the municipality. We have been working hard for the party’s cause for the last two years, yet the local leadership has deceived us,” Vijay Chander said while announcing his decision to quit the party.
He also urged the State leadership to focus on the state of affairs in the district units.
