Sircilla: BRS working president KT Rama Rao stepped up his attack on the Congress government, terming the ongoing municipal elections as a direct contest between the decade-long development model of BRS and the rollback of welfare schemes under the two-year Congress rule. He declared that the civic polls would serve as a stepping stone to bring BRS chief K Chandrashekhar Rao back to power.
Addressing ward-level meetings and gatherings of urban voters in Sircilla on Wednesday, Rama Rao urged voters to use the elections to send a strong warning to the Congress government, which he said had betrayed people by not implementing its electoral promises. He cautioned that failing to challenge the Congress now would leave people without an opportunity to question it until the next Assembly elections.
The BRS working president accused the Congress of discontinuing or weakening several flagship welfare schemes introduced during the BRS tenure. He said promises made by the ruling party had largely remained unfulfilled over the past two years, with Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy focusing on political rhetoric rather than governance.
“Despite being in power, Revanth Reddy is indulging in rhetoric and targeting KCR with abusive language. What is the need to abuse the former Chief Minister when you have enough power to do some good for the people and make a name for yourself?” he questioned.
Raising the issue of district reorganisation, Rama Rao stated that the Congress was attempting to dilute or reverse the formation of smaller districts carried out during the BRS regime. He called on voters to carefully assess its implications before casting their ballots. He also questioned the delay in releasing funds for implementing the Rythu Bharosa financial assistance.
“Revanth Reddy is assuring to resume Rythu Bharosa payments after the municipal polls, but we are aware that it is aimed at misleading farmers. Schemes like Kalyana Laskhmi and Shaadi Mubarak have also been sidelined,” he added.
Appealing for support to BRS candidates, Rama Rao said the municipal elections would indicate public sentiment on the State government’s performance and determine the future direction of welfare and development in Telangana.
