Hyderabad: The Telangana Gig and Platform Workers Union (TGPWU) on Saturday appealed to the government and the Director-General of Police to intervene and clarify about the latest rules pertaining to the lockdown, as on Saturday, the police started strict enforcement of the lockdown by including measures like seizing vehicles.
According to a statement issued by Shaik Salauddin, founder of TGPWU, the police stopped drivers and delivery workers and seized their vehicles or imposed heavy penalties on them. The statement also says that there was no prior communication from the app-based companies about the latest restrictions related to the lockdown.
“The companies closed the apps and stopped taking orders when police started stopping drivers and delivery workers,” says the statement, which also demands the penalties be imposed on the companies instead of the drivers or delivery workers.
The union has also tweeted to the companies asking them to assist delivery workers in waiving off their penalties and getting their cars and bikes released and bear legal expenses pertaining to the same.
