Class 10 student attempts suicide over snake prank in Telangana’s Ganneruvaram

Karimnagar: A Class 10 student, fearing punishment from his father after he played a prank by placing a dead snake in a classmate’s lunch box, attempted suicide by consuming pesticide on the premises of his school in Ganneruvaram mandal on Tuesday.
The student, identified as Boini Sai Kumar, was rushed to a local hospital by the school staff. After receiving first aid, he was shifted to district headquarters hospital, where he is undergoing treatment.
According to school authorities, a snake had entered the Zilla Parishad High School in Ganneruvaram on Friday. After the school attender killed the snake and threw it away, Sai Kumar retrieved the snake carcass and placed it inside a girl student’s lunch box as a prank. When questioned by teachers, he allegedly gave a reckless response.
Following this, Mandal Education Officer (MEO) and Headmaster Ramaiah summoned Sai Kumar’s father, Chandraiah, to the school on Monday to discuss his behaviour. Chandraiah assured the school that his son would not repeat such actions.
However, anticipating reprimand at home, Sai Kumar reportedly consumed pesticide he had brought with him to the school. Headmaster Ramaiah said the student had been causing trouble to others and might have taken the extreme step out of fear of punishment from his father.
