Kothagudem: Police have taken Civil Liberties Committee (CLC) leaders into custody while they were going to inspect the site where an encounter took place near Mothe village under Karakagudem police station limits in the district recently.

CLC president professor Gaddam Laxman and general secretary N Narayana Rao and nine others who were travelling in a bus were intercepted at Sri Abhayanjaneya Swamy Temple area on PV Colony road near Manugur on Saturday.

They were taken to Aswapuram police station in a school bus, later they were reportedly shifted to Khammam. The members of people’s organisations staged a protest at the bus stand area in Kothagudem condemning the detention of the CLC leaders.

They shouted slogans against the State government. Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy promised to form a democratic government to protect the freedom of expression in Telangana but contrary to his claims the CLC leaders were taken into custody while they were on a fact finding mission, they said.
