Khammam: Indian Federation of Trade Unions (IFTU) leaders demanded the Labour Department officials to take immediate steps to clear pending files related to the benefits of the Workers Welfare Board.
A large number of workers staged a protest at the District Labour Office here on Wednesday in support of their demands. Speaking on the occasion, IFTU district president P Venkanna, secretaries G Pullaya and G Ramaiah said thousands of workers in Khammam district were registered with Telangana Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board as beneficiaries. But the officials had failed to release the benefits dues to them from 2016 to 2021, they alleged, adding that the names of workers were on the sanctioned list but the money was not credited to their accounts.
As many as 7,000 files pending with the department in the district have to be cleared immediately. The Welfare Board had to set up a loan facility for workers to buy bicycles as petrol and diesel rates were increasing day by day, Venkanna demanded.
PF and ESI facilities should be offered to construction workers as they have no social security along with an old-age pension of Rs 3,000 for every worker above 60 years of age, the leaders noted.
They demanded to enhance marriage gift to Rs 1 lakh, maternity benefit to 50, 000, natural death relief to Rs 3 lakh and accidental death relied to Rs 10 lakh. The protesting workers wanted action against officials promoting brokers in the labour office.
