CM Adhikari announces Rs 300 crore school grants, curriculum changes in Bengal

West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari said his government would include the contributions of Syama Prasad Mookerjee and Swami Pranabananda in school curricula. He also announced Rs 300 crore in composite grants for state-run and aided schools to improve infrastructure

Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Saturday said his government would introduce in the school curriculum contributions of Bharatiya Jana Sangh founder Syama Prasad Mookerjee and Bharat Sevashram Sangha founder Swami Pranabananda, without whom the state would not have existed.

Adhikari, while addressing a National Teachers’ Day event here, said that the state’s BJP government has allocated Rs 300 crore as “composite grants” for state-run and aided schools where infrastructure and amenities had crumbled under the previous TMC dispensation, which, he said, only focused on ‘khela’ (sports), ‘mela’ (fairs), puja grants and allowances for Imams.

“We will introduce in the school curriculum the contributions and sacrifices of Syama Prasad Mookerjee and Swami Pranabananda, who were instrumental in the creation of West Bengal, thus saving the lives of crores of Hindus during the Partition of India,” he said.

Adhikari alleged that the previous government had shown special favours to students of a particular community in religious educational institutions as part of appeasement policy. “We will, however, follow an inclusive approach,” he asserted.
