Hyderabad: With heavy rain forecast across the State, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Saturday directed the administration to remain on high alert.
The India Meteorological Department predicted moderate to heavy rains in Nizamabad, Sangareddy, Medak, Vikarabad, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem and Khammam districts. As per its report, 15 districts recorded heavy rainfall, while the remaining districts received normal rainfall. Jagtial, which had earlier reported deficit rainfall this monsoon, has been receiving heavy rains since Friday night.
The Chief Minister reviewed the flood situation and instructed officials to deploy NDRF and SDRF teams in advance, coordinating with district Collectors for relief operations in flood-hit habitations.
He ordered shifting of families from low-lying areas to relief camps in view of the rains and the threat of overflowing canals, rivulets and ponds. The Irrigation Department was directed to monitor water levels in reservoirs and canals, and to keep Collectors and field staff informed on floodwater releases.
As part of precautionary measures, he asked officials to keep sandbags ready to contain breaches and damage along reservoirs and ponds that were brimming with inflows. Police and Revenue authorities were told to prohibit traffic on roads, low-level bridges and causeways where water levels were rising.
To check the spread of water- and vector-borne diseases in rain-hit areas, the Chief Minister instructed Municipal, Urban and Village administration officials to carry out sanitation drives in areas prone to mosquito menace due to water stagnation.
The Health Department was directed to stockpile medicines and set up medical camps in identified areas. The Chief Minister stressed that precautions must be taken to prevent loss of life, property and livestock.
