Hyderabad: In a development that will boost healthcare services and infrastructure in government hospitals, Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao will lay the foundation stone for two multispecialty hospitals in Hyderabad soon.

As part of its efforts to improve tertiary government healthcare services, the State government has plans to establish four government hospitals in the capital. Out of the proposed four hospitals, two super-specialty government hospitals fall under the GHMC limits, while the remaining two are in Rangareddy district.

“Since there is a code of conduct under implementation for the upcoming MLC elections in Rangareddy district, the Chief Minister will lay the foundation stone for specialty government hospitals in Hyderabad in the coming days and later in Rangareddy district. The aim is to ensure we keep improving healthcare facilities and services in all government hospitals in Telangana,” Health Minister T Harish Rao said on Thursday.

The State government will convert the Telangana Institute of Medical Sciences (TIMS), Gachibowli, the standalone Covid speciality care facility that was launched last year during the Covid pandemic, into a multispecialty hospital.

The remaining two specialty hospitals have been planned to be developed in the 62-acre campus of the Government Chest Hospital, Erragadda and the huge vacant space available at Gaddiannaram fruit market, which was recently shifted to LB Nagar. One more multispecialty hospital has been proposed to be established at Alwal or Medchal-Malkajgiri district.

“The Chief Minister has already laid the foundation stone for construction of a multispecialty hospital in Warangal. In fact, to be able to have enough manpower, the Director of Medical Education (DME) has already completed the process of giving promotions and posting senior doctors. We are confident that the new medical colleges in districts will start at the earliest,” Harish Rao said while launching seven ambulances here on Thursday.
