Hyderabad: Residents of Vengalraonagar colony are demanding the immediate relocation of the proposed mortuary for the Telangana Institute of Medical Sciences (TIMS). The residents have expressed their concerns and opposition to the proposed mortuary facility on the main road adjacent to their residential locality.
Citing the long-standing sanitation and odor concerns surrounding the Gandhi Hospital mortuary in Padmarao Nagar, the residents of Vengalraonagar urged authorities to consider shifting the mortuary to another location inside the hospital campus.
The mortuary can be located in the ample vacant land within the hospital premises, particularly in the area adjoining the Government Chest Hospital, they said.
The residents maintained they submitted multiple petitions and representations to Health Department authorities, but no meaningful response was forthcoming. They expressed disappointment over no response from Jubilee Hills MLA, Naveen Yadav, over the issue and pointed out promises were made by elected representatives to take up the issue with the Health Minister, but no tangible progress has been made so far.
A mortuary located on a busy public road and adjacent to a densely populated residential area will result in continuous movement of bodies, funeral vehicles, and related activities, causing severe psychological distress to children, elderly citizens, and families living nearby, they said.
The colony residents have urged Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and Health Minister Damodar Raja Naasimha to intervene and conduct a comprehensive review of the proposed mortuary location.
“The facility must be relocated to a suitable area within the hospital premises that safeguards both public health and the quality of life of nearby residents. We will continue to protest till the proposed mortuary is shifted away from the main road and residential surroundings,” residents in a press release said.
