Hyderabad: Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy is flying to New Delhi, again, on Monday.
Though the official purpose of the visit this time around is to participate in the swearing-in ceremony of Chief Justice of India Justice Suryakanth, speculations are doing the rounds that he could meet AICC leaders and discuss the current political scenario in the State.
With Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar expediting the hearing on the disqualification of the 10 Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) turncoat MLAs and Khairatabad MLA Danam Nagender reportedly willing to resign, these issues could be discussed with the AICC leadership.
Nagender had already met AICC leaders in New Delhi last week and insisted on a cabinet berth in the wake of his disqualification or resignation. Station Ghanpur MLA Kadiyam Srihari also exuded confidence that he would contest from the constituency and emerge victorious if a by-election was inevitable.
As the Congress government failed to fulfill its promise of extending 42 percent reservations to BCs in the local body elections, party sources said if the Chief Minister meets AICC leaders, that matter could also be discussed.
The 42 percent reservation to BCs was promised in the manifesto but the party was not in a position to deliver the same in the Gram Panchayat elections. Already, G.O.Ms. 46 has been issued on the guidelines for reservations to SC, ST and BCs in the panchayat elections. A hearing on the reservation issue is also scheduled in the High Court on Monday.
Meanwhile, party sources said a few cabinet Ministers were upset over being sidelined by the Chief Minister, who met AICC leaders along with Jubilee Hills MLA V Naveen Yadav soon after the by-election.
A few Ministers claimed to have worked hard for the party’s success but their efforts were not being recognised by the high command. The fact that the Chief Minister’s close aide Rohin Reddy accompanied the team to meet AICC leaders also left a few Ministers fuming.
