Hyderabad: Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Tuesday appealed to Maoists to surrender before the Telangana Police and join the mainstream, saying it was time to contribute to the nation’s development by giving up the path of violence.
“Telangana suffered from Maoist and terrorist activities in the past. The spirit displayed by the State Police has led to a sharp decline in such activities in recent times,” the Chief Minister said after paying tributes to police martyrs at the Police Commemoration Day event here.
He pointed out that several key Maoists had already surrendered before the police. “I am appealing to all Maoist leaders and activists still active to surrender and join mainstream life. Maoists should become partners in nation-building and the country’s progress by shedding the naxal ideology,” Revanth Reddy said.
The Chief Minister announced support for the family of CCS constable E Pramod, who was killed by an accused in Nizamabad on Friday. The government will provide Rs.1 crore ex gratia, last drawn salary till retirement, a government job and a 300-yard house site to one of the family members.
Revanth Reddy also recalled that the government had allotted 200-yard housing plots at Gajularamaram to 33 policemen who lost their lives while fighting Maoists in Odisha in June 2008.
Expressing concern over rising cybercrime fraud, he said Telangana Police remained a national leader in using advanced technology to tackle cyber offences.
“This department is performing its duties efficiently and has become one of the best in the country. The entire nation is saluting the Telangana Police for conducting inter-state operations against cybercriminals,” he said.
In view of growing challenges in investigation, traffic management, patrolling and VIP protection, the Chief Minister said the government had implemented several welfare measures for police personnel. Around 16,000 constables and sub-inspectors had been recruited to reduce workload and improve efficiency, he said, also claiming that political interference was ‘completely removed’ in the discharge of police duties.
